Semi crossed the volume threshold
On Friday Tesla announced high-volume production at its first factory built specifically for the Semi. Capacity: 50,000 units per year. Floor space: 1.8 million square feet. Standard, Long Range, and European variants share one line. PepsiCo, DHL, and US Foods are already taking trucks.
Why this matters: Limited production proved the truck. Volume production changes the cost curve for electric freight. That is the real test.

Starship’s path to first orbit
Ship 41 moved to the pad. The stack was completed. Full-stack testing and a full launch rehearsal followed. Elon wrote “Preparing for launch on Monday” and later “Starship is magnificent.” Flight 14 remains targeted for September 28 — the first planned orbital attempt and the first operational Starlink V3 deployment from Starship.
Why this matters: Hardware on the pad plus a completed dress rehearsal is the strongest pre-flight posture the program has shown for an orbital shot.

Grok 4.7 went to work
The model launched mid-week. Independent evals put it near the top of coding benchmarks while remaining far cheaper. Tesla engineers said they were already shipping FSD and Cybercab features with overnight agents built on 4.7. Then Grok Bot arrived inside the car itself — inbox, calendar, files, hands-free.
Why this matters: A model that is both competitive and cheap enough for daily use becomes infrastructure. Putting it inside the vehicle turns the car into a workplace.

TWO HARDWARE FRONTIERS
The truck entered volume. The rocket finished its dress rehearsal. Both now face their real tests.
I looked back across the week and the pattern was clear. On one side, Tesla finally crossed from limited Semi production into a purpose-built factory designed for 50,000 trucks a year. On the other, SpaceX moved Ship 41 to the pad, completed the stack, ran full-stack tests, and finished the launch rehearsal for the first planned orbital flight.
Neither story is finished. Volume production is the start of the cost curve for electric freight, not the end. A completed dress rehearsal is the last major pad checklist before an attempt, not the flight itself. Monday is still the target for Flight 14.
In the same window Grok 4.7 landed, scored near the top of coding evals while staying cheaper, and began doing real engineering work inside Tesla. The model also moved into the car as a hands-free work tool. Three different systems — truck, rocket, model — all shifted from demonstration toward operational scale in one week.
My take: The next few days will test the two hardware bets most clearly. The Semi must prove volume is real. Starship must prove orbit is reachable. Everything else this week was preparation for those two moments.
