ACROSS THE EMPIRE

Terafab: site locked, scale defined
Tesla and SpaceX confirmed that Terafab will be built in Grimes County, Texas. The initial phase is set at $16.8 billion. The finished facility is planned at more than 100 million square feet—described as the largest chip manufacturing facility ever and roughly 50 times the size of the Pentagon.
The target is more than 1 terawatt of compute capacity per year. Chips will serve Tesla’s Optimus robots and Cybercabs as well as high-power processors for SpaceX’s planned space-based data centers. A research fab precursor has already broken ground on the North Campus of Giga Texas.
Why this matters: Both companies have said global chip supply cannot meet their future demand. Building the capacity themselves is the vertical-integration answer. The size of the bet is now public and concrete.

“Largest and most valuable building on Earth”
Elon posted that Terafab Texas will be the largest and most valuable building on Earth by far—and that it will be stunningly beautiful. He also offered a rough allocation guess: about 25% of the AI compute output for Tesla Optimus and 75% for AI spacecraft.
SpaceX released a vision video and pointed to the update page. Tesla posted the same video with the Grimes County confirmation and the 1-terawatt goal.
Why this matters: The language is absolute. The companies are no longer describing a concept. They are describing a site, an initial budget, a floor area, and a compute target.

Grok Build reaches 1.0.0
Elon announced that Grok Build V1.0 is now released and linked the build page. The update includes dashboard summaries of what the agent did, better permissions and input handling, improved reliability on large repositories and image-returning tools, cleaner error banners, and many navigation and UI fixes.
Hitting a major version number after a long stretch of frequent increments is a milestone for the agent surface.
Why this matters: Version 1.0 signals that the core experience is considered stable enough to treat as a foundation. The daily reliability work continues under a clearer label.

Why the chips matter for everything else
Terafab is positioned as the answer to a supply problem that spans Optimus, unsupervised vehicles, and orbital compute. The same companies that need the chips are building the factory that will make them.
That loop—demand from robots and spacecraft driving a domestic fab of unprecedented size—is the strategic core of the announcement.
Why this matters: Without enough specialized silicon, the rest of the roadmap slows. Securing the production line is an attempt to remove that bottleneck.

The pattern of the week
Earlier in the week SpaceX posted its first public earnings. Then Megapack 3 started rolling and two Prufrocks worked side by side. Now the chip fab that is meant to feed the larger AI and robotics plans has a confirmed location and an initial budget.
The scoreboard, the batteries, the tunnels, and the silicon are all moving in the same direction.
Why this matters: Individual announcements look large in isolation. Taken together they form a consistent push toward vertical control of the scarce inputs.

THE MAIN EVENT

THE SILICON BET
A factory measured in terawatts and square miles.
Terafab is no longer a concept. Grimes County, Texas is the site. The first phase is budgeted at $16.8 billion. The finished complex is planned above 100 million square feet—large enough that comparisons to the Pentagon are being used as a measuring stick, not a metaphor.
The stated goal is more than one terawatt of compute per year. That output is meant to feed Optimus, Cybercabs, and the high-power chips required for space-based data centers. A research fab is already under construction at Giga Texas as the precursor.
Elon called it the largest and most valuable building on Earth by far, and said it will be stunningly beautiful. The allocation of that compute, in his rough estimate, leans heavily toward AI spacecraft while still leaving a meaningful share for the humanoid and vehicle side.
On the same day the agent layer crossed a different threshold: Grok Build reached version 1.0.0. The release notes focus on reliability, clearer permissions, better navigation, and fewer edge-case failures. The foundation is being labeled as such.
My take: The empire is trying to own the scarce inputs. Batteries, tunnels, launch, and now the silicon itself. Terafab is the largest single expression of that strategy so far.

THE TROLL REPORT
|
🧌 “Another mega-project that will never happen.”
A research fab is already under construction. The county site is confirmed. An initial $16.8 billion phase is on the books. The pattern of announcing and then building is the one that has already produced the batteries, the tunnels, and the launch cadence.
|
|
🧌 “1 terawatt is fantasy numbers.”
It is an ambitious target. It is also the scale the companies say they need. The alternative is accepting that global supply will remain the bottleneck. They are choosing not to accept that.
