The first Starlink V3 satellites are alive
Starlink confirmed the first V3 satellites in space successfully deployed their solar arrays, fired their thrusters, established connections with the existing constellation using both radio frequencies and laser links, and captured imagery of Starship.
Elon replied simply: “Starlink V3 is a gamechanger.” The new birds are designed for roughly 10× downlink capacity (about 1 Tbps) and 22× uplink versus earlier versions, with far more beams, stronger laser mesh, and roughly double the solar power.
Why this matters: Capacity is the constraint that decides whether the network can support denser users, lower latency paths, cars, robots, and future direct-to-phone service.
